Local payment integration checklist

A provider API can be easy to call and still be difficult to operate reliably. Use this checklist with engineering, finance and the provider before agreeing an integration timeline.

Confirm access and business requirements

Get current API documentation and sandbox access from the provider. Confirm that the required currencies, transaction types and account arrangements are available to your business. Production approval may have a separate lead time from engineering delivery.

  • Required collection, payout, refund and reversal flows
  • Sandbox limitations and production onboarding owner
  • Fees, settlement schedules and available reconciliation reports

Define what each status means

Map provider statuses to internal transaction states. Specify behavior when a request times out but the provider may have accepted it. The customer message, wallet balance and settlement record must follow a consistent decision.

  • Duplicate requests and idempotency scope
  • Out-of-order or repeated callbacks and signature validation
  • Pending transactions, retry limits and manual investigation

Make reconciliation part of the integration

Choose the identifiers that connect internal records with provider reports. Agree how differences are identified, investigated and resolved. Include reversals, partial outcomes and fees in the reconciliation review.

  • Stable internal and provider transaction references
  • Settlement report availability and processing schedule
  • Exception ownership and an auditable resolution procedure

Agree launch evidence and ongoing ownership

Build acceptance scenarios with the provider and the operating team. Test failures as well as successful transactions. Record which scenarios could only be simulated and which were observed in the provider environment.

  • Successful, failed, delayed and duplicate transactions
  • Monitoring, alert thresholds and escalation contacts
  • API version changes, credential rotation and maintenance ownership
